DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY:
Trips Manu Adventures 5 days
Trips Day 1: Cusco (3300 m.a.s.l.) – Manu Cloud Forest (1,700 m.a.s.l.) – Paraiso Inn Lodge
Our Manu Adventures Jungle Tour begins at 6:00 am, traveling through the Andes from the city of Cusco in a private minivan. We will make stops at the “chullpas” of Ninamarca, better known as pre-Inca tombs of the Lupaca culture.
We will then continue to Paucartambo, a picturesque colonial town with narrow streets and a beautiful church with an interesting museum where ancient customs are preserved. After this activity, we will ascend to Paso Acjanaco (3550 m.a.s.l.), considered the gateway to the National Park and the Tres Cruces viewpoint (3700 m.a.s.l.) to observe a beautiful view of the Amazon basin.
We will descend towards the jungle, first passing through a dwarf forest and then through a cloud forest where we will have the opportunity to observe the cock of the rock (national bird of Peru), hummingbirds, swallows, flycatchers, quetzals, and, if we are lucky, the woolly monkey.
In terms of flora, we can find a wide variety of orchids, mosses, ferns, and other unique plants. Throughout our journey, we will enjoy nature and its spectacular landscape. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our Paraiso Lodge Inn. After dinner, we will take a night walk to continue our adventure in the tropical jungle.
Trips Day 2: Paraiso Lodge Inn – Nuevo Edén – Tamarin Camping Center
You will wake up to the songs of Amazonian birds at breakfast time and then we will take our private vehicle to continue the tour. After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, we will arrive at the community of Shintuya.
Here we will take our boat on the Alto Madre de Dios River. During the trip, we will observe various species such as birds, turtles, and caimans basking on fallen logs and beaches along the river. We may also see animals such as the capybara, the sloth bear, and, with luck, the jaguar or the tapir. We will stop to take a refreshing bath in the hot springs, have lunch, and practice artisanal fishing.
In the afternoon, we will arrive at our destination and set up our tents in the deep jungle. At night, we will take a walk to observe the diversity of species such as frogs, insects, tarantulas, birds, and nocturnal monkeys. For this tour, you will need to bring your headlamp.
Trips Day 3: Camping Nuevo Edén (250 m.a.s.l.) – Exploring Manu Adventures
The day of our Manu Adventures Expedition begins very early in the morning. We will take a 4-hour walk inside the Manu National Park reserve. This ecosystem is home to very important species for conservation, such as monkeys, birds, wild boars, toads, ants, and medicinal plants of the jungle.
Our native guide will explain the diversity of jungle species, including giant trees. We will return to the camp for lunch, followed by free time to take a refreshing bath in the river. Then, we will visit a lake to fish for piranhas, catfish, and sardines.
After this activity, we will visit a mammal clay lick, where we will spend the night in tents on a platform. During dinner, we may observe some mammals that come to lick the mud.
Trips Day 4: Nuevo Edén Camping – Rainforest Lodge – Machuwasi Lake – Manu Adventures
With an excellent typical Amazonian breakfast, we will explore the tropical jungle, observing other species. After this activity, we will return to the camp to pack our things and take our private vehicle through the deep jungle to the port of Atalaya.
We will embark on a boat to continue enjoying the jungle, having lunch during the trip. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our lodge, where we will settle into our respective rooms. Then, we will take a walk through the primary forest with our native guide, who will share his knowledge of flora and fauna.
We will visit Machuwasi Lake and use a catamaran to observe other species that inhabit the lake. Afterward, we will return to our lodge. At night, we will engage in an activity on the Manu trail inside the Amazon jungle and the Madre de Dios River in our outboard boat, observing other nocturnal aquatic species before returning to our rooms.
Trips Day 5: Collpa de Loros Rainforest Lodge – Return to Cusco
We will leave early to visit the parrot clay lick to see hundreds of parakeets and small macaws. Every morning they gather to eat this salty clay that contains mineral salts and sodium. After this activity, we will return to our lodge.
We will enjoy breakfast, then pack our things and board our boat back to Puerto Atalaya, where our private transport will be waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco.
We will arrive around 5:30 – 6:00 p.m.

National Park and Biosphere
The Manu National Park (MNP) IS a protected natural area, It waestablished by the Peruvian government on the 29th of May, 1973 with the intention of preserving the
natural riches of this area of high biodiversity. Currently, after a recent expansion, theMNP comprises an area of 1,692,806 hectares. Here, only research is permitted, and tourism is restricted to established sites on the stretch of river between Boca Manu and the guard post at Pakitza.
The MNP, from well before its creation,
has been the territory of indigenous Amazonians belonging to several different ethnic groups (among themthe Matsiguenka, Yine, Mashco-Piro, Nahua, Amarakaeri, Huachipaeri) and a small
number of Quechua inhabitants who live in the high Andean zone of Callanga.
groups, by natural rights, are the only inhabitants allowed within the park. On the first of May, 1977, by request of the Peruvian overnment,
UNESCO’
s Man and the Biosphere Program (MAB) recognized 1,881,200 hectares (including the territory of MNP) within the qlobal network of Biosphere Reserves.
Thepurpose of these Reserves is to promet a sustainable relationship between humans
and their environment These areas are selected principally Decause they representecosystem important for conservation and because they also include human populations coexisting with a relatively intact environment, To that end, the MBR consists of three zones:
the Nucleus Zone which corresponds in large part with the area of MNP;
the Reserve Zone which corresponds to the fraction of MNP where touristic activity is permitted; and the Buffer Zone (or Culture Zone), where agricultural
and forestry activities are developed in conjunction with environmental education programs and sustainable development projects.
