DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY:

Shaman Ayahuasca Peru – 7 Days

Shaman Ayahuasca Peru – Deep in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Ayahuasca has been an essential element of Peruvian Amazonian traditions for centuries. This ancient and sacred ritual is a profound medicine, recognized for its capacity to heal and impart deep wisdom. Participating in an Ayahuasca ceremony is, without exaggeration, one of the most enriching experiences one can have. Central to Amazonian healing practices, it focuses on self-healing and the belief that spiritual imbalance lies at the root of illness.

Day 1: Departure from Cusco – Journey through Paucartambo and the Cloud Forest to Amazon Lodge

Our adventure begins early, departing from Cusco on a private bus. The route takes us through picturesque Andean valleys and quaint rural communities. Stops along the way include Ninamarca’s pre-Inca burial towers and the colonial town of Paucartambo, where we’ll explore a museum celebrating local culture. After enjoying lunch in the cloud forest, a hotspot for endemic wildlife such as spectacled bears and the Andean cock-of-the-rock, we’ll descend to Pilcopata for an overnight stay at a cozy lodge.

Day 2: From Amazon Lodge to Blanquillo Lodge to Puerto Atalaya

The day starts with an early breakfast, followed by an engaging trek through the forest, where monkeys and colorful birds are common sights. Highlights include visits to a coca plantation and an animal rescue center. Continuing by bus to Puerto Atalaya on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River (500 m.a.s.l.), we’ll board a boat to observe diverse bird species like herons, vultures, and cormorants. A relaxing soak in natural hot springs marks a tranquil interlude before our arrival at Boca Manu for an overnight stay.

Day 3: From Blanquillo Lodge to Manu Reserved Zone

At dawn, we’ll visit the vibrant parrot clay lick for an incredible display of colorful birds. We’ll then check in at the Limonal ranger station before journeying deep into the Manu Reserved Zone on a four-hour boat ride. At Casa Machiguenga, our home for the next two nights, we’ll immerse ourselves in unspoiled rainforest. The area teems with macaws, toucans, eagles, capybaras, caimans, river turtles, and monkeys, with the possibility of spotting a jaguar basking by the riverbanks. The afternoon will feature a guided hike through the jungle in search of rare wildlife.

Day 4: Exploring the Reserved Zone – Lagoons Otorongo and Salvador

Awakened by the calls of howler monkeys, we’ll start the day with a morning hike. Exploring Lake Salvador, we’ll look for giant river otters, black caimans, and an array of monkeys and birds, including the prehistoric hoatzin. After lunch, a three-hour hike reveals more of the rainforest’s breathtaking flora and fauna. For the adventurous, an optional night walk offers a chance to encounter nocturnal creatures like frogs, snakes, and fascinating insects.

Day 5: Wildlife Exploration in Manu Reserved Zone – Otorongo Lake and Macaw Clay Lick

Sunrise brings an unforgettable visit to the macaw clay lick, where parrots and macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. After breakfast, we’ll climb an observation tower overlooking Otorongo Lake, offering panoramic views of the primary forest and its wildlife. A boat journey downstream follows, providing opportunities to spot caimans and turtles. The day concludes with a guided nature walk at Limonal before we return to Boca Manu for the night.

Day 6: Ayahuasca Ceremony – Rainforest Amazon Lodge

We’ll navigate along the Alto Madre de Dios River, savoring the lush surroundings and abundant wildlife. Before arriving at our lodge, there’s an optional stop at natural hot springs.
In the evening, preparations for the Ayahuasca ceremony include fasting and drinking water.

Before Taking Ayahuasca:

Preparation for ayahuasca should begin days before the ceremony. It is essential to follow a basic diet, avoiding red meat, processed foods, alcohol, drugs, and, during the three days prior, any type of animal meat. A diet based on fruits and vegetables is recommended. It is also important to fast on the day of the ceremony, as the brew can be very bitter and may cause vomiting. The purpose of the diet is to reduce the physical impact of the purge and facilitate the body’s cleansing. Additionally, meditating before the ceremony helps to arrive with a calm mind.

Sacred Rituals: Led by a Master Shaman, ancestral chants and prayers set a harmonious atmosphere, uniting the body, mind, and soul with Ayahuasca’s spirit.
Visionary Journey: The Shaman creates a secure and supportive environment for deep introspection and clarity.
Reflections: Participants can share their experiences and gain insights with guidance from the Shaman.

The transformative experience concludes near midnight, after which participants retire for rest and reflection.

Day 7: Return to Puerto Atalaya and Cusco

On the final day, we’ll rise early for the journey back to Puerto Atalaya. Our private transport will then take us to Cusco, where we’ll arrive in the evening.
