Discover the Magic of Acjanaco A Jewel in the Manu Park

Discover the Magic of Acjanaco: A Jewel in the Manu Park

Acjanaco, located at the beginning of the Manu Biosphere Discover the Magic of Acjanaco A Jewel in the Manu Park Reserve on your route, marks the southernmost part of the reserve. Perched at an elevation of 3200 meters, this

enchanting place offers a unique experience to travelers. The road to your left leads to the renowned lookout point

called Tres Cruces (Three Crosses), famous for its breathtaking sunrise, a spectacle only visible from Acjanaco and Japan.

The ideal time to witness this captivating sunrise is during July and August. However, it’s essential to

note that the area tends to be cloudy throughout the rest of the year due to the humidity rising from the northern jungle side of the mountains.

Historically, the Incas utilized Tres Cruces to observe the summer and winter solstices. From this natural

platform, they admired the vast expanse of the Amazon rainforest, which marked the eastern boundary of their

known world. On the eastern side, you can catch a glimpse of the Biosphere’s highest mountain, “Apu Kañahuay,”

standing tall at an impressive altitude of 4050 meters. In Quechua, “Apu Kañahuay” translates to “that who is near God.”

As you drive down from Acjanaco, you’ll notice a transition from the treeless alpine-like Paramo in the high

altitudes to a fascinating elfin forest. Descending further, the elfin forest transforms into a mysterious cloud forest,

adding to the sense of wonder and intrigue. Finally, your journey will lead you to the mesmerizing tropical rainforest,

a true treasure trove of biodiversity and natural beauty.

Acjanaco promises an unforgettable experience as you embark on your route to Manu, immersing yourself in the

stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems that make this region so remarkable.
