Day 1: Iquitos – Nauta – Amazon Rainforest Lodge

Travel from Iquitos to the Peruvian Amazon

Our adventure begins at approximately 6:00 a.m., with pickup from your hotel in Iquitos. From there, we will travel in a private vehicle along a paved road to Nauta, a traditional town located south

of Iquitos.

During the approximately one-hour-and-45-minute drive, we will pass through small villages, rural landscapes, and agricultural areas that offer a glimpse into everyday life in the Amazon region.

Upon arriving in Nauta, we will explore its streets and discover some of the traditional corners of this historic town, known for its close connection to the Amazonian rivers.

Cruise Along the Marañón River and Arrival at the Lodge

From Nauta, we will board a boat and cruise along the Marañón River, enjoying the tropical scenery and lush vegetation lining its banks.

Upon arrival at our Amazon rainforest lodge, you will be welcomed with a refreshing drink made from local fruits. You will then be shown to your private room, and your guide will explain the

Traditional Lunch and Primary Rainforest Walk

During the walk, we will discover representative tree species of the region, such as capirona, capinurí, trees from the Cecropia family, moena, and the impressive lupuna, also known as the kapok

tree.

Depending on local conditions, we may spot birds and other wildlife, including parrots, macaws, kingfishers, and monkeys. Wildlife sightings depend on the season, weather, and the animals’ natural

behavior.

Dinner and Nighttime Caiman-Watching Excursion : At dusk, we will return to the lodge for dinner and a short rest before our next adventure.

At night, we will head out on a guided canoe excursion to explore the surrounding rivers and lagoons. With a little luck, we may spot caimans and hear the sounds of nocturnal wildlife.

This activity offers a chance to discover a different side of the rainforest, when many animals become active after sunset.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to the lodge for our first night in the Peruvian Amazon.

Day 2: Rainforest Walk, Pink River Dolphins, and Local Community Visit

Early Morning Walk to Spot Monkeys and Birds

We will start the day early with a walk through the Amazon rainforest. Accompanied by our guide, we will follow natural trails in search of monkeys, squirrels, birds, and other species that inhabit

the forest.

Along the way, we will learn to recognize signs of animal activity and discover how different species adapt to one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet.

After the walk, we will return to the lodge for breakfast.

Cruise Along the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers : After breakfast, we will take a boat excursion along the region’s rivers. We will explore sections of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers, which are

associated with the geographical formation of the Amazon River.

During the cruise, we will enjoy the river scenery, lush riverside vegetation, and opportunities to observe birds and wildlife.

We will continue toward the Yarapa River, a tributary with dark waters that offers a distinctive setting for exploring Amazonian biodiversity.

Pink Amazon River Dolphin Watching : One of the most exciting moments of the journey will be searching for the famous Amazon pink river dolphins.

We will also discover handicrafts made by local residents, when available, and have the opportunity to purchase locally made products as souvenirs of our trip.

The visit will be conducted with respect for the traditions, privacy, and daily activities of the host community.

Sunset on the Amazon River and Nighttime Rainforest Walk : As the afternoon draws to a close, we will admire the sunset over the Amazonian river landscape, a perfect moment to enjoy

the tranquility of nature and take photographs.

We will then return to the lodge for dinner.

Later, we will embark on a guided nighttime rainforest walk to discover the wildlife that emerges after dark. With the help of our guide, we will look for insects, frogs, amphibians, and other small

creatures that inhabit the tropical forest.

At the end of the excursion, we will return to the lodge to rest and enjoy our second night in the Amazon rainforest.

Day 3: Traditional Piranha Fishing and Return to Iquitos

Our final day will begin early with a canoe ride on Anaconda Cocha Lagoon.

During this excursion, we will explore the aquatic environment and observe birds feeding or resting among the riverside vegetation. The peaceful early morning hours offer excellent opportunities to

Afterward, we will return to the lodge for breakfast.

Traditional Piranha Fishing in the Peruvian Amazon : After breakfast, we will take part in a traditional fishing experience in a nearby lagoon or waterway, depending on local conditions.

We will use simple fishing rods similar to those traditionally used by local residents. With guidance from our tour guide, we will try to catch piranhas and other Amazonian fish species.

This activity will help us learn more about the diversity of fish found in the river ecosystems and discover traditional fishing practices associated with life in the rainforest.

The catch will depend on water conditions, the season, and fish activity. The excursion will be conducted in accordance with local regulations and applicable conservation practices.

Lunch and Return to Nauta : After the fishing activity, we will return to the lodge for lunch and prepare our luggage.

We will then travel by boat back to Nauta and continue by road to the city of Iquitos.
