Manu Trekking Tours Explorations: 8-Day Adventure Itinerary
Manu Trekking Tours Explorations The Palotoa community, located along the banks of the Palotoa River, belongs to the Arawak linguistic group and is part of the Matsiguenka ethnic family. Situated at approximately 450 meters above sea level, this community offers a unique opportunity to experience traditional crafts made from jungle materials. Their intricate clothing, known as kushmas, features distinctive patterns and vibrant colors. Engage with their traditional practices of hunting, fishing, and gathering, which are deeply rooted in their culture, especially during the rainy season when edible species are abundant.
Day 1: Cusco to Paucartambo, Ninamarca Cloud Forest to Pilcopata
Begin your journey with Manu Expeditions Palotoa as we depart from Cusco via private bus. Our first stop will be the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. Continuing through the mountains, we’ll arrive in the folkloric town of Paucartambo, where you’ll experience the vibrant customs of the locals. After a brief exploration, we’ll ascend to Acjanaco, the highest point and entrance to Manu National Park. Here, we will enter the enchanting cloud forest, where we’ll embark on a one-hour walk to observe the National Bird of Peru, the Cock-of-the-Rock, along with a variety of monkeys, plants, and flowers. In the evening, we’ll settle in at a local lodge in Pilcopata for our first night on this incredible expedition.
Day 2: Pilcopata to Manu Trekking Tours Explorations
After breakfast, we’ll take our private bus to Atalaya Port. Along the way, we’ll visit a coca plantation and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding jungle and rivers. From Atalaya, a motorized boat will take us to Aguas Calientes, where you can relax in natural hot springs. In the afternoon, we’ll return up the river to Palotoa, visiting the native community of Shintuya along the way. Expect a thrilling jungle walk to discover diverse wildlife, and in the evening, we’ll venture to an oxbow lake to catch caimans before camping at Palotoa near the Alto Madre de Dios River.
Day 3: Community Palotoa to Inchipato
After breakfast, we’ll embark on an expedition to the Inchipato River, immersing ourselves in the pristine jungle. Look forward to spotting various animals in their natural habitat and enjoying the lush flora and medicinal plants. This will be our third night in the heart of the rainforest.
Day 4: Inchipato Trail River to Amazonia
Following breakfast, we’ll spend several hours trekking through the rainforest, fishing in the river, and swimming in refreshing waters. In the evening, we’ll try our luck catching caimans before setting up camp near the river for our fourth night.
Day 5: Trekking Expeditions from Inchipato to River
After breakfast, we’ll explore various trails, soaking in the rich biodiversity until we reach the Palotoa River. In the evening, we’ll visit a mammal clay lick before returning to our campsite for our fifth night of adventure.
Day 6: Jungle Expeditions to Manu Trekking Tours Explorations and Pusharo Petroglyphs
Today, we’ll journey to the Pusharo petroglyphs, making our camp nearby. After breakfast, we’ll visit several native communities, learning about their traditional ways of life, before returning by balsa raft to our campsite for the sixth night.
Day 7: Amazing Salvacion Lake to Manu Trekking Tours Explorations
On this day, we’ll navigate back along the Alto Madre de Dios River to Salvacion Lake, home to the prehistoric Hoatzin bird. Enjoy a day of balsa rafting before returning to camp in the evening for a bonfire and BBQ—our final night camping by the river.
Day 8: Manu Trekking Tours Explorations Palotoa Community to Cusco
We’ll rise early for a visit to the parrot clay lick. After breakfast, we’ll travel back to Atalaya by boat, where our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. Our return journey will pass through the beautiful cloud forest and Paucartambo, arriving in Cusco by late afternoon.
