This adventure combines scenic mountain roads, river journeys, jungle walks, natural hot springs, oxbow lakes, clay licks, and close encounters with the extraordinary wildlife of the Amazon rainforest.
Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest –Pilcopata lodge
Your Amazon adventure from Cusco begins after breakfast with a scenic drive through the Andes. We pass traditional Quechua communities and travel toward Paucartambo, a historic mountain town known for its rich cultural traditions.
In Paucartambo, we have the opportunity to see local artisans creating traditional Andean masks before continuing toward the high mountain pass. From the pass, the landscape changes dramatically as we begin our descent toward the Amazon Basin.
Over the course of the journey, we drop from approximately 3,500 meters to 1,600 meters above sea level, entering the lush Cloud Forest. Keep your camera ready for orchids, waterfalls, and colorful birdlife along the route.
By late afternoon, we reach our Bamboo Lodge, surrounded by the vegetation of this remarkable transition zone between the Andes and Amazon.

Day 2: Rainforest Lodge to Atalaya Port & Hot Springs to Boca Manu .
After breakfast, we continue toward Atalaya by private bus. Along the way, we stop at a coca plantation and a scenic viewpoint where you can appreciate sweeping views over the rainforest and river valleys.
At Atalaya, we board a motorized boat and begin our journey deeper into the Amazon. One of the highlights of the day is a stop at Aguas Calientes, where you can relax in naturally heated hot springs surrounded by jungle scenery.
Afterward, we continue by boat toward Boca Manu Lodge. In the afternoon, we take our first guided rainforest walk, exploring the vegetation and looking for wildlife.
After dinner, an optional night jungle walk offers the chance to search for nocturnal creatures, including caimans, before returning to the lodge.

Day 3: Boca Manu – Manu National Park Reserved Zone -Jaguar Eco Lodge .
Today we enter the remote Reserved Zone of Manu National Park, traveling along the Manu River into one of the most biodiverse areas of the Peruvian Amazon.
After completing registration at the Limonal Park Ranger Station, we continue by boat toward Casa Matsiguenka, our accommodation for the next two nights.
The river journey itself is an exciting wildlife experience. Watch the riverbanks and surrounding forest for toucans, macaws, capybaras, tapirs, caimans, and other Amazonian species. With patience and luck, you may even catch sight of a jaguar along the river.
We arrive in the afternoon near Salvador Oxbow Lake and settle into the lodge.

Day 4: Salvador Oxbow Lake – Giant River Otters – Rainforest Walk
We start early with a canoe excursion on Cocha Salvador, also known as Salvador Oxbow Lake. These quiet waters provide excellent opportunities for observing Amazon wildlife in its natural habitat.
One of the main highlights is the search for giant river otters, a rare and endangered Amazonian species. The lake and surrounding forest may also reveal Agami herons, hoatzins, monkeys, and many other species.
Manu is particularly famous for its remarkable primate diversity, and sightings can include red howler monkeys and other monkey species moving through the forest canopy.
After lunch, we explore the terra firme forest with an ecologist guide. During the hike, learn how plants, insects, birds, mammals, and other organisms interact within the complex rainforest ecosystem.
Later in the afternoon, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the river before returning to Casa Matsiguenka for the evening.

Day 5: Manu Reserved Zone – Tapir Clay Lick – Night Wildlife Observation
Today we continue our journey through the Amazon, traveling downstream along the Manu River for approximately six hours toward the Madre de Dios region.
After reaching our next lodge, we take a guided forest walk to look for colorful rainforest birds, including macaws and toucans, while learning more about the surrounding ecosystem.
The major highlight is the Tapir Clay Lick. We spend the night at a specialized observation platform, giving us the opportunity to quietly watch for wildlife visiting the clay lick.
Tapirs come to these mineral-rich sites to consume clay, and they may be joined by other rainforest animals such as deer, peccaries, spider monkeys, and parakeets.
Spending the night near the observation site provides a unique opportunity to experience the sounds and activity of the Amazon after dark.

Day 6: Great Macaw Clay Lick – Amazon Wildlife
An early morning departure takes us downriver toward one of the most spectacular wildlife attractions in the Manu region: the Great Macaw Clay Lick.
We arrive around sunrise, when rainforest activity begins to increase. Parrots typically gather first, followed by larger macaws as the morning progresses.
Hundreds of colorful parrots and dozens of large macaws may gather along the riverbank to consume mineral-rich clay. The sight and sound of these birds gathering together make this one of the most memorable experiences of the Manu Amazon rainforest tour.
While watching the clay lick, remain alert for birds of prey and other predators that may be attracted by the concentration of wildlife.
After the morning wildlife spectacle, we travel back upriver toward our lodge for our final night in the Amazon.

Day 7: Tapir Lodge – Colorado – Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, we begin our journey out of the Amazon rainforest.
We travel by boat toward the mining town of Colorado before continuing overland to Puerto Maldonado via the Interoceanic Road.
We expect to arrive in Puerto Maldonado at approximately 11:00 am. From here, you can continue your journey by air to Cusco or Lima.
Flights are not included in the tour package, so we recommend arranging your onward flight with enough time to allow for possible changes in river or road travel conditions.

What time does the tour start?
The tour generally starts early in the morning from Cusco, allowing enough time to travel through the Andes, Paucartambo, and the Cloud Forest on the first day.
The exact pickup time depends on the departure date, your hotel location, and current road conditions. We will confirm your pickup time before departure.
What time do we return to Cusco from the jungle?
This 7-day itinerary does not return directly to Cusco. The tour begins in Cusco and finishes in Puerto Maldonado.
On the final day, we travel from the Amazon toward Puerto Maldonado, arriving at approximately late morning under normal conditions. From Puerto Maldonado, you can arrange an onward flight to Cusco or Lima.

The first part of the trip in the high Andes can be cold, particularly around the mountain passes. Temperatures become warmer as we descend through the Cloud Forest and into the Amazon lowlands.
