From the Andes to the Amazon: A birding expedition through Peru’s most biodiverse regions.
Day 1: Cusco – Huacarpay – Abra Pirhuayani – Marcapata – Quince Mil
Start time: 05:00 a.m. from Cusco
Early birding at Huacarpay Lake for high Andean endemics:
Bearded Mountaineer, Rusty-fronted Canastero, Giant Hummingbird, Plumbeous Rail, Many-colored Rush Tyrant, etc.
Continue to Ocongate, birding en route for:
Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch (E), Creamy-crested Spinetail (E), Mourning Sierra Finch, etc.
At Abra Pirhuayani (4,725 m):
Gray-breasted Seed Snipe, Andean Goose, White-winged Diuca Finch, etc.
Descend through high Andean forest to Marcapata:
Marcapata Spinetail (E), Scaled Metaltail (E), Andean Condor, Sword-billed Hummingbird, etc.

Day 2: Marcapata – Quince Mil
Early morning birding in Marcapata Valley:

Return to Quince Mil, birding en route:

Day 3: Quince Mil – Mazuco – Puerto Maldonado
Early departure toward Puerto Maldonado via Mazuco, stopping for key lowland and foothill species:
Black-and-white Seedeater, Azure Gallinule, Black-faced Dacnis, Military Macaw, Paradise Tanager, etc.
Lunch en route; continued birding:
Golden-collared Toucanet, Gould’s Jewelfront, Buff-tailed Sicklebill, Festive Coquette, etc.
Arrival in Puerto Maldonado, dinner and overnight in town.
Day 4: Puerto Maldonado – Pastora – Iberia
Morning birding in Pastora region:
White-throated Jacamar, Sunbittern, Barred Antshrike, Hoatzin, Pectoral Sandpiper, etc.
Return to Puerto Maldonado for lunch.
Afternoon transfer (3–4 hrs) to Iberia, birding en route.
Dinner and overnight in Iberia.
Day 5: Iberia – Oceania – Puerto Maldonado – Durand Lodge

Days 6–8: Durand Lodge – High & Primary Jungle Birding
Three full days of immersive birding in Amazonian primary forest. Target species include:
Antbirds & Antwrens: Goeldi’s Antbird, Plumbeous Antbird, White-browed Antbird, Pygmy Antwren, etc.
Manakins: Round-tailed, Band-tailed, Blue-crowned, Golden-collared, etc.
Woodcreepers: Amazonian Barred, Strong-billed, Black-banded, etc.
Barbets & Toucans: Gilded Barbet, Ivory-billed Aracari, White-throated Toucan, etc.
Endemics: Peruvian Recurvebill, Manu Antbird, etc.

Day 9: Durand Lodge – Tres Chimbadas Lake – Durand Lodge
Early boat ride upriver to the Macaw & Parrot Clay Lick.
Continue by boat to Tres Chimbadas Lake:
Lake birding by catamaran:
Horned Screamer, Green Ibis, Rufescent Tiger Heron, Snail Kite, Giant Otters, etc.
Return to the lodge for lunch and an afternoon of relaxed birding or rest.
Day 10: Durand Lodge – Puerto Maldonado – Flight to Lima
After breakfast, drive to Puerto Maldonado, birding en route.
Arrive at airport for your domestic flight to Lima, marking the end of the tour.
