Day 1: Cusco – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest –Pilcopata lodge

Your Amazon adventure from Cusco begins after breakfast with a scenic drive through the Andes. We pass traditional Quechua communities and travel toward Paucartambo, a historic mountain town known for its rich cultural traditions.

In Paucartambo, we have the opportunity to see local artisans creating traditional Andean masks before continuing toward the high mountain pass. From the pass, the landscape changes dramatically as we begin our descent toward the Amazon Basin.

Over the course of the journey, we drop from approximately 3,500 meters to 1,600 meters above sea level, entering the lush Cloud Forest. Keep your camera ready for orchids, waterfalls, and colorful birdlife along the route.

By late afternoon, we reach our Bamboo Lodge, surrounded by the vegetation of this remarkable transition zone between the Andes and Amazon.

Day 2:The Best Trail Amazon Peru : Rainforest Lodge to  Atalaya Port  &  Hot Springs to  Boca Manu .

After breakfast, we continue toward Atalaya by private bus. Along the way, we stop at a coca plantation and a scenic viewpoint where you can appreciate sweeping views over the rainforest and river valleys.

At Atalaya, we board a motorized boat and begin our journey deeper into the Amazon. One of the highlights of the day is a stop at Aguas Calientes, where you can relax in naturally heated hot springs surrounded by jungle scenery.

Afterward, we continue by boat toward Boca Manu Lodge. In the afternoon, we take our first guided rainforest walk, exploring the vegetation and looking for wildlife.

After dinner, an optional night jungle walk offers the chance to search for nocturnal creatures, including caimans, before returning to the lodge.   manu birding

Day 3:The Best Trail Amazon Peru : Boca Manu – Manu National Park Reserved Zone -Jaguar Eco Lodge .

Today we enter the remote Reserved Zone of Manu National Park, traveling along the Manu River into one of the most biodiverse areas of the Peruvian Amazon.

After completing registration at the Limonal Park Ranger Station, we continue by boat toward Casa Matsiguenka, our accommodation for the next two nights.

The river journey itself is an exciting wildlife experience. Watch the riverbanks and surrounding forest for toucans, macaws, capybaras, tapirs, caimans, and other Amazonian species. With patience and luck, you may even catch sight of a jaguar along the river.

We arrive in the afternoon near Salvador Oxbow Lake and settle into the lodge.

Day 4:The Best Trail Amazon Peru : Salvador Oxbow Lake – Giant River Otters – Rainforest Walk

We start early with a canoe excursion on Cocha Salvador, also known as Salvador Oxbow Lake. These quiet waters provide excellent opportunities for observing Amazon wildlife in its natural habitat.

One of the main highlights is the search for giant river otters, a rare and endangered Amazonian species. The lake and surrounding forest may also reveal Agami herons, hoatzins, monkeys, and many other species.

Manu is particularly famous for its remarkable primate diversity, and sightings can include red howler monkeys and other monkey species moving through the forest canopy.

After lunch, we explore the terra firme forest with an ecologist guide. During the hike, learn how plants, insects, birds, mammals, and other organisms interact within the complex rainforest ecosystem.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the river before returning to Casa Matsiguenka for the evening.

Day 5:The Best Trail Amazon Peru : Manu Reserved Zone – Tapir Clay Lick – Night Wildlife Observation

Today we continue our journey through the Amazon, traveling downstream along the Manu River for approximately six hours toward the Madre de Dios region.

After reaching our next lodge, we take a guided forest walk to look for colorful rainforest birds, including macaws and toucans, while learning more about the surrounding ecosystem.

The major highlight is the Tapir Clay Lick. We spend the night at a specialized observation platform, giving us the opportunity to quietly watch for wildlife visiting the clay lick.

Tapirs come to these mineral-rich sites to consume clay, and they may be joined by other rainforest animals such as deer, peccaries, spider monkeys, and parakeets.

Spending the night near the observation site provides a unique opportunity to experience the sounds and activity of the Amazon after dark.

Day 6: The Best Trail Amazon Peru :Great Macaw Clay Lick – Amazon Wildlife

An early morning departure takes us downriver toward one of the most spectacular wildlife attractions in the Manu region: the Great Macaw Clay Lick.

We arrive around sunrise, when rainforest activity begins to increase. Parrots typically gather first, followed by larger macaws as the morning progresses.

Hundreds of colorful parrots and dozens of large macaws may gather along the riverbank to consume mineral-rich clay. The sight and sound of these birds gathering together make this one of the most memorable experiences of the Manu Amazon rainforest tour.

While watching the clay lick, remain alert for birds of prey and other predators that may be attracted by the concentration of wildlife.

After the morning wildlife spectacle, we travel back upriver toward our lodge for our final night in the Amazon.

Day 7: The Best Trail Amazon Peru :Tapir Lodge – Colorado – Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast, we begin our journey out of the Amazon rainforest.

We travel by boat toward the mining town of Colorado before continuing overland to Puerto Maldonado via the Interoceanic Road.

We expect to arrive in Puerto Maldonado at approximately 11:00 am. From here, you can continue your journey by air to Cusco or Lima.

Flights are not included in the tour package, so we recommend arranging your onward flight with enough time to allow for possible changes in river or road travel conditions.

Tours Day 1: Cusco Ninamarca to Paradise Lodge Inn to Amazing Wildlife Peru

We leave Cusco early in the morning to start our Amazing Wildlife Peru .First, we are taken by private transport to the place called Ninamarca to observe pre-Incan “chullpas” (tombs) of the Lupaca’s culture.  Then,

we continue to Paucartambo, a colonial town with narrow streets and beautiful church, where people still keep their old customs.

Later, we ascend to Acjanaco Pass (3,550 masl) considered as an entrance to the Manu National Park

and then we get to the viewpoint Tres Cruces de Oro (3,700 masl) From there, we start descending to the edge of the Manu .

strikingly   coloured quetzals, trogons, spotted flycatcher and woolly monkey. From flora, we can view a variety of orchids, mosses, ferns, etc.  Finally, we get to Pilcopata (700 masl) where our first accommodation in our Pilcopata Lodge is

Tours Day 2: Pilcopa to Rainforest Lodge  to Amazing Wildlife Peru .

After breakfast, we continue our journey by private car (one and half an hour) towards the port at Atalaya (500 m.a.s.l). There, we board a motorized boat to continue for about half an hour navigating on the Alto Madre de Dios

River.  Along the rocky riversides, we have a great opportunity to observe the river wildlife like many birds, turtles or sunbathing lizards. In the afternoon, we reach our next lodge – Rainforest Lodge  .  Then we go to explore nearby

paths where we can see a big diversity of species, for example, tarantulas, ants, butterflies, some monkey species, huge trees, erotic plants, palms, etc. After that, we return to our lodge to overnight. Optional:

Tours Day 3: Rainforest Lodge –  Parrot Clay Lick – Aguas Calientes .

We wake up today very early to board a motor boat taking us to a 10 minute far away clay-lick of parrots, budgerigars and aras (guacamayo) which is an unforgettable experience! After this activity, we return to the lodge to

have breakfast. Afterwards, we go for a walk following nearby Manu jungle´s paths observing its large flora & fauna biodiversity such as monkeys, birds, medicinal plants used by local people to heal various sicknesses, etc.  For lunch,

we get back to the lodge to later continue to another excursion, this time to Aguas Calientes (hot springs located in the Manu National Park) There, we enjoy a hot bath providing us with energy in the afternoon we will back our lodge

Optional: A night ride in a boat to do “caimaneada” (caiman watching) in Rainforest  jungle trips.

Tours Day 4:
Jungle Trip to  Aguas Calientes –  Machuwasi Lake  – Rainforest Lodge .

Today, we have another opportunity to go to the parrot clay-lick to view parrots, budgerigars and Macaw  eating clay that is very important to their digestion. If we are lucky, we can also spot some big mammals like capybaras,

tapirs, anteater, monkeys, etc.  We go for lunch back to the Rainforest Lodge. Afterwards, we have a short break to enjoy a refreshing bath in a river or just relax in the lodge. In the afternoon, we go to visit Machuwasi Lake to check

out a sail in “remos” (hollowed tree trunks used by natives of the area). This is a perfect way on how to watch a

big diversity of local animal species such as a prehistoric bird called hoatzin, some caimans, capybaras or monkeys Tocon

Tours Day 5:
Jungle Rainforest  Lodge to Atalaya Port Back Cusco .

After breakfast, we board our motorized boat to start returning. Our first stop is in the Atalaya Port where our private vehicle awaits us to take us back to Cusco arriving there between 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm.

IMPORTANT.
You need to be vaccinated against Yellow Fever as well as to bring some anti-malaria tablets with you.

Visiting Manu :

Some 5,000 visitors make the trip to Manu each year, roughly 5% being dedicated birders. On a typical 2–3 week trip covering all altitudes, birders accompanied

by experienced leaders regularly record 550–650 species. There is something for everyone at Manu. Some birders start early, finish late and ‘bird until they drop’.

Others come for a relaxed birding holiday, staying at comfortable lodges, visiting macaw licks (called collpas), paddling on oxbow lakes and passing a leisurely morning atop one of the many canopy towers.

As access is restricted, almost all visitors come on a tour: only authorised operators can take visitors into Manu National Park and all must be accompanied by an official guide.

We will explore nearby trails, where we can see a great diversity of species, such as tarantulas, ants, butterflies, various monkey species, huge trees, non-native plants, palms, and more. Afterward, we will return to our lodge for the night.

Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick – Hot Springs Expedition to Best Travel Amazon Peru

We will wake up very early today to board a motorboat and travel for 10 minutes to visit a clay-lick where parrots, budgerigars, and macaws gather, creating an unforgettable experience! After this activity, we will return to the lodge

for breakfast. Later, we will take a walk along jungle paths to observe the great diversity of flora and fauna, including monkeys, birds, and medicinal plants used by local people for healing various ailments. For lunch, we will return to

the lodge. In the afternoon, we will visit Aguas Calientes, a hot spring located in National Park. There, we will enjoy a soothing bath to recharge our energy. In the evening, we will return to our lodge.
