Day 1: Rainforest Wildlife Tour Manu From Cusco City – Ninamarka / Pilcopata Lodge –
Our adventure begins early in the morning as we leave Cusco by private transport, heading towards the breathtaking cloud forest. After a hearty breakfast, we embark on a 1.5-hour drive to Atalaya, the main port of Manu National Park (500m). Here, we board a motorized boat for an unforgettable 7-hour journey along the Madre de Dios River.
As we cruise, we have excellent opportunities to spot herons, vultures, kingfishers, egrets, turtles, and some of the 13 monkey species that inhabit Manu. By afternoon, we reach Boca Manu, where we check into our next lodge. Day 4:Rainforest Wildlife Tour Manu Visit Cocha Otorongo – Cocha Salvador (Manu Reserved Zone)
We begin the day with a tranquil rowboat excursion on Cocha Salvador, a pristine oxbow lake. This is an excellent opportunity to observe the giant river otters, known for their playful nature and impressive fishing skills. Day 5: Manu Biosphere Macaw Clay Lick and Cocha Otorongo to Boca Manu Lodge -Rainforest Wildlife Tour Manu
At dawn, the eerie call of the red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus) signals the start of another incredible day. Today we will get up very early to go see the show of the macaw, parrot and parakeet clay lick, where every morning they will eat this salty clay, which contains mineral salts and is rich in nutrition. Then we will return to our lodge to continue with our activities.
As we begin our return journey along the Manu River, we remain on high alert for turtles, white caimans, capybaras, and possibly jaguars.
Later in the morning, we embark on a slow-paced trek through pristine primary forest, where we encounter giant trees, ayahuasca vines, chestnut trees, edible and medicinal plants, and a variety of insects and mammals. A final visit to Cocha Otorongo allows us one last chance to observe giant otters from the 20-meter observation tower.
By evening, we return to our Boca Manu Lodge, where we settle in for the night, reflecting on the day’s adventures.
