Take a trip to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu (which in Quechua means “Old Mountain”) is the most important Inca archaeological site of America and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Americas within Peru.
It is one of the most coveted to visit because of its world famous monument Machu Picchu. The city is located in the most inaccessible area of the Andes and hidden in the jungle by the
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The best time to travel to Machu Picchu is from May to September, in the winter the temperatures are much lower, but it does not rain as much as in other months of the year.
The best months are June and July to travel to Machu Picchu by the Inca Trail Classic. Among the most recommended week is June 24 when the Inti Raymi or Festival of the Sun occurs in Cusco. The season of the rainiest months are December, January, February and March.
This exciting journey takes you through and around Cusco, the ancient Inca capital. Then the eastern slope of the Andes by the mysterious cloud forest to low jungle Manu Biosphere Reserve entering Puerto Maldonado.
This part of the Amazon is overflowing with life forms, from simple but the mighty jaguar killer fungi. The birds are definitely one of the lifestyles of more successful here, and present with more than 1,000 species!
There is an extension of the high Andean site Abra Malaga which has a high number of endemic bird species. After visiting the most intriguing of the Inca ruins, Machu Picchu.
DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY:
Amazon Explorer – Inca Trail Machupicchu- 12 days
Tour Day 1: Cusco City Tour –
Upon arrival in Cusco, assistance at the airport, transfer to hotel, accommodation, rest of the morning. In the afternoon, 13.40 Hrs. We begin our tour visiting Cusco Cathedral,
the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun where we can appreciate the fine work that the Incas performed on the stone; then, continuing the tour we will go to Saksaywaman fortress with strategic location that offers an unparalleled
view of the city. Also appreciate Kenko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.
Tour day 2: Sacred Valley – Pisaq – Urubamba – Chinchero – Ollantaytambo .
This tour begins with the gathering of the passengers in the hotel and go through an asphalted to the town of Pisac located 32 km road from Cusco.; where you can see and do some shopping at the craft market of Pisac,
located in the Main Plaza, the typical craftsmanship in ceramics, leather and looms elaborated by the artisans themselves will also be noted.
Continuing the tour will pass through the towns of Coya, Lamay, Calca, Yucay, Urubamba, observing beautiful flora and fauna along the route which takes about 45 minutes to reach the town of Urubamba for lunch in a cozy typical restaurant;
in the afternoon we continue the journey to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will visit the archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo,
after visit this important archaeological site, return visit the ruins of Chinchero and its small chapel a few minutes from the Cusco, later transferring them to their hotel.
Tour Day 3: Inca Trail To Machupicchu 2 days.
Pick you up at 5: 45 am. from their hotels in Cusco, and head to the train station to travel to Machu Picchu, from where we will go watching picturesque landscapes,
until the Km. 104 where we started our hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. From the Inca archaeological group of “Chachabamba” (2250 m) we went in about two hours into the fascinating Inca archaeological site of “Wiñaywayna” (2650 masl) where we enjoyed a pick nick.
In the afternoon we follow the semi-tropical forest to the “Intipunku” (Sun Gate) where we can enjoy the first panoramic view of the majestic “Machu Picchu”. From here we descend to the village of Aguas Calientes “town
of Machu Picchu” where you can optionally visit the thermal baths and spend the night comfortably in a hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Tour day 4: Machipicchu Ollantay tambo Return to cusco .
After breakfast we went to the hot springs hotel “Machu Picchu village”, take the first bus to Machu Picchu tours to enjoy the sunrise over Machu Picchu is a magical place;
enjoy a guided 2 hour approximate the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, after the explanation of our guide, we will have the day free to explore the surrounding Inca archaeological site of Machu Picchu.
You can climb Huayna Picchu mountain, from where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Inca city of Machu Picchu, green valleys and mountains that surround it,
or can visit the Temple of the Moon or the fabulous Bridge Inca of Machu Picchu tours. In the afternoon bus down to Aguas Calientes “town of Machu Picchu” from where we return to Cusco traveling by train. Transfer to Hotel in Cusco .
Tour Day 5: Amazon Explorer – Cusco to Cloud forest Lodge (San Pedro):
6:00 am leaving in a private bus stopping in interesting places like Ninamarcas Chullpas these are pre-Inca cemetery.
The trip will be around 9 hours approximately, the highest pass on this road is 4000 msl. On this day we travel over the Andes and over the famous cloud forest which has interesting flora and fauna like de Andean Cock of the Rock Peru’s national bird.
In the afternoon we arrive to San Pedro. We will spend the night in a Lodge in double rooms . Optional night walk.
ToursDay 6: Amazon Explorer – Cloud Forest (San pedro Andean Montains) to Rainforest Lodge:
5:00 am we go to the lick to observe the display of the male Andean cock of the Rocks.
After the show we come back for breakfast and explore slowly looking for woolly monkey, brown capuchin, quetzals, toucans which inhabit the cloud forest.
Later we continue our trip by bus to Atalaya. From Atalaya we will make rafting . in balsa rafts which are made from balsa wood . We spend the night in the rustic Soga de Oro Lodge with private bathroom and hot shower. Optional night walk.
Tour Day 7: Amazon Explorer – Rainforest Lodge Called Native House (Casa Matsiguenka):
We leave very early to see the parrot lick which is located ten minutes down river from the lodge.
After the show we continue with our boat trip for approximately 10 hours inside the Manu National Park. During the boat ride we have the best options to see the famous Jaguar, Capybaras, Caimans sleeping on the beach, Herons fishing at the edge of the Manu and alto
Madre de Dios rivers, Macaws, Toucans, Vultures, Eagles and other species of birds which will show up along our trip.We spend the night in the rustic casa Matsiguenka shared bathroom and shower. Optional night walk.
Tour Day 8: Amazon Explorer – Native House Matsiguenka:
We leave very early to explore the impressive lake Salvador where it is possible to observe the Giant river otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), the biggest black Caimans, the different species of monkeys which inhabit Manu (13 species),
the prehistoric bird call Hoatzin, King Fishers and many more species.After lunch we visit lake Otorongo, here there is an observation tower to appreciate the lake , also it is possible to observe another family of Giant river Otter that uses this lake.
We spend the night in the rustic casa Matsiguenka shared bathroom and shower. Optional night walk.
Tour Day 9: Amazon Explorer – House Matsiguenka to Maquisapayoj Lodge:
We will leave very early so we can have the best chance to try to see the rarest Jaguar, the best time to observe animals on the rain forest are early in the morning and late in the afternoon.
The trip on the boat will be around 7 hours down the Manu and Madre de Dios river. We spend the night at the Maquisapayoj lodge private bathroom and hot shower. Optional night walk.
Tour Day 10: Amazon Explorer – Maquisapayoj to Macaw Clay Lick and Tapir Lick :
4:00 am we leave to go to the macaw clay lick, the trip is 40 minutes by boat and 15 minutes walking to the special observation hide. The activity begins around 5:50 am with the small parrots and later the big macaws.
The Parrots eat the clay which has minerals that helps the stomach digestion that is the reason why hundreds of parrots parakeets and macaws come to this particular place.
After lunch we walk through primary rain forest for 1.40 hours to the Tapir lick; here there is an especial observation platform to see the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris). The tapirs are usually active at night for this reason we have mosquito nets, mattresses and blankets to spend the night.
Tour Day 11: Amazon Explorer – Maquisapayoj Back to Puerto Carlos Port and Cusco:
Early in the morning we start with our return trip to Cusco, first by boat to Colorado village and then by car to Puerto Carlos, after crossing the Inambari River we star with the minibus to Cusco.
Arriving to Cusco late in the afternoon . For the people who wants to fly we continue our trip to Puerto Maldonado two more hours. We spend the night in a hostal with private bathroom and shower. Dinner by your own.
Tour Day 12:Amazon Explorer – Tambopata por Puerto Maldonado Flight From Cusco or Lima:
Breakfast included in the hostel, after transfer to the airport for your trip to Cusco or Lima.
