Manu Expedition Tour 5-days

Itinerary for the Manu Expedition Tour: 5 Days of Adventure.

Day 1: Cusco Urcos – Mazuco Rainforest

Get ready for an exciting journey. Our Manu Expedition Tour starts with a long travel day of 11 hours. Don’t worry, we’ll stop at all the key sights along the way.

First, we ascend in our private vehicle to the Pituhuaylla Pass, reaching 4,750 m.a.s.l.. As we continue, we’ll traverse high savannahs and enter the tropical rainforest.

Next, we’ll descend through a cloud forest, marveling at the lush vegetation, including ferns, bromeliads, and orchids, until we reach the lowlands by the Inambari River.

In the afternoon, we arrive in the village of Mazuco (500 m.a.s.l.), famous for its gold mining. We’ll spend the night in a private twin room at a local  Lodge.

 Day 2: Manu Expedition Tour – Puerto Colorado to Maquisapayoq.

After breakfast, we continue our expedition to a nearby port, where we’ll sail across the Inambari River. We then hop back into our private vehicle for an hour-long ride to the main port at Puerto Colorado.

Here, our motorboat awaits to take us up the Madre de Dios River for a 4-hour journey to the Maquisapayoq Lodge, home to the adorable red-faced spider monkey.

Keep an eye out for the incredible wildlife along the rocky shores—spot 13 monkey species, herons, vultures, caimans, and even crocodiles.

After settling into our private twin rooms with bathrooms at the lodge, you can opt for a night walk  –Manu  photograph  Manu Jungle Trips where you  see some amazing rainforest insects, frogs, and snakes.

 Day 3: Manu Expedition Tour- Maquisapayoj to Macaw Clay Lick and Tapir Lick

Rise and shine. At 4 AM, we set out to witness the famous macaw clay lick at Blanquillo. After a 40-minute boat ride and a 15-minute walk, we’ll enjoy breakfast while waiting for the “show” to begin at about 5:50 AM.

Smaller parrots and parakeets will arrive first, followed by the stunning macaws (Ara Chloroptera) that come to eat

clay, which helps them digest and cleanse their bodies of toxins.

After lunch, we’ll explore the nearby tapir clay lick, where we’ll spend the night observing tapirs and other mammals from a hidden platform just 3 meters away.

 Day 4: Manu Expedition Tour-Maquisapayoj to Cocha Blanco and Camungo Lake

Early morning brings a visit to Cocha Blanco, where you might spot a family of giant river otters while they fish, Keep an eye out for the prehistoric bird, the hoatzin, as well as various monkeys and sloths native to the area.

After lunch back at the lodge, we’ll head to Camungo Lake. First, we’ll climb a 42-meter high observation tower for stunning views, then take a boat ride to see more river otters and an array of jungle birds.

Later, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner and have another chance to spot tapirs if we didn’t succeed before.

Day 5:Manu Expedition Tour to   Maquisapayoj to Puerto Maldonado or Cusco

It’s time to head back. We’ll wake up early, enjoy breakfast, and start packing. We’ll board our motorboat for the return journey down the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Colorado.

From there, we’ll switch to our land vehicle and travel back to the Inambari River, crossing it by boat once more before continuing to Cusco, expected arrival around 6:30 – 7 PM.

IMPORTANT: You do not need to be vaccinated against Yellow Fever to participate in this jungle tour.

After breakfast, we make our way to a nearby port for a brief 10-minute boat ride across the Inambari River. Once on the other side, we continue our journey by vehicle to Puerto Colorado, where a motorboat awaits to take us up the Madre de Dios River for a 4-hour ride through the heart of the Amazon. Day 3: Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick & Camungo Lake

Rise early this morning for an unforgettable visit to the famous Blanquillo Clay Lick, where large flocks of macaws, parrots, and parakeets gather to consume mineral-rich clay, which helps them digest their food and detoxify. Watch as these vibrant birds swoop down from the sky in spectacular displays.

Following this, we explore the surrounding trails, where our guide will point out the diversity of wildlife that inhabits this area, including monkeys, birds, frogs, spiders, and butterflies. Afterward, return to the lodge for a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, we visit Camungo Lake, where a boat ride offers opportunities to see giant river otters and a variety of birds. Then, we head to a nearby observation tower (42 meters high) to enjoy panoramic views of the Amazon and capture incredible photos.

Later, we embark on a unique rainforest adventure to observe tapirs at their clay lick. We’ll spend the night in a hidden observation platform, only meters away from the lick, surrounded by nature’s sounds. Our platform is equipped with cushions and mosquito nets for comfort.

Optional Accommodation: If you prefer, you can choose to stay overnight in a nearby lodge with twin rooms.

Day 4: Return Journey from Maquisapayoq to Cusco

This is the final day of our adventure. We start early and enjoy a hearty breakfast before departing Maquisapayoq Lodge. We board our motorboat and sail back down the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Colorado, where we switch to a land vehicle for the journey back to Cusco. Expect to arrive in Cusco by late evening, around 6:30 – 7:00 pm.

Day 2: Amazon Jungle to Maquisapoj

the river by boat and continue for another hour by car to the village of Colorado. From there, a boat awaits us to take us on a 4-hour ride up the Madre de Dios River to Maquisapayoq.

In the early afternoon, we arrive at the Maquisapayoq Lodge, located in an area known for its black spider monkeys. You’ll spend the night in double rooms with private bathrooms.

Day 2: Amazon Jungle to Maquisapoj

Rise early for an exciting excursion to the macaw clay lick. After a 40-minute boat ride and a short walk, we reach a

special hideaway where we can observe these magnificent birds. Around 5:50 AM, the small parrots arrive, followed by the larger macaws.

The birds visit this clay lick to consume minerals that aid in digestion, making it a fascinating natural spectacle. Manu Reserve

After breakfast, we take a hike through primary rainforest (about 1.5 hours) to reach the tapir lick, a special

observation platform for viewing tapirs (Tapirus terrestris). Tapirs are typically nocturnal, so we provide mosquito

Day 4: Blanco Lake and Camungo Lake Tour

Today, we visit Blanco Lake, where we search for the family of giant river otters that often frequent the area. This is also a prime location to spot the hoatzin, a prehistoric bird, as well as other wildlife like the snail kite, brown-

throated three-toed sloth, red howler monkeys, and squirrel monkeys. After lunch, we head to Camungo Lake, where

we ascend a 42-meter observation tower for an aerial view of the area. From here, we’ll observe toucans, parrots, and

other magnificent birds. We’ll also take a catamaran ride for another opportunity to spot the giant river otters.

Day 5: Maquisapoj to Cusco

On the final day of the tour, we begin our journey back to Cusco. Early in the morning, we travel by boat to Colorado

village, then take a car to Puerto Carlos. From there, we board a minibus for the return trip to Cusco, where we will

arrive in the afternoon. You are free to enjoy a farewell dinner on your own as the tour comes to a close.
